Password Protected Directories
Learn more on password-protected directories and just what they bring to your web site.
A password-protected directory is a folder which can't be accessed unless the correct login details are offered. This may be an entire site or simply one page that is situated in a subfolder. If you attempt to open this kind of a directory, you will see a web browser pop-up where you will need to type a username and also a password. In case you type in the correct ones, you'll be able to continue exploring the content without having to do anything additional. If the login credentials aren't accurate, however, you shall see a note that you aren't authorized to see the content. When this function is activated, you will not be able to open a file even when you have a direct link. The option is incredibly handy if you wish to restrict the access to some content or if you are developing a site and you do not want visitors to be able to access it before it's ready.
Password Protected Directories in Website Hosting
Creating a password-protected area will take only a few clicks and a few seconds if you host your websites in a website hosting account with our company. You will not have to do anything challenging - you will need to choose a domain/subdomain, to pick which folder under it should be secured, and then to input the login name and password which will be used to access that folder. If a number of people require their own login details, there will not be a problem to make a number of different usernames with access to the same folder. All protected folders shall appear with a padlock icon in the File Manager section, so you shall always know where this function is activated. If you'd like to disable the security function for any folder, you can disable it from the same section of the CP where you have enabled it.
